Villeréal is a lively small town to the north around a 5-minute drive from Gites de Bessou. It is a Bastide town with a fascinating history evident with the brilliantly preserved 14th century arcaded square and the striking 13th century fortified church. The central square is lined by authentic shops, cafes and half-timbered houses.

The markets are the main attraction in Villeréal and a great way to get an authentic French small-town experience. There is a produce market every Saturday morning which is always a lively affair and a chance to see the locals come together as well as an opportunity to sample the local produce. The night market on Monday evenings is a special experience where you can indulge in fine food from the surrounding stalls and enjoy a meal under the covered market with live entertainment and a laid-back atmosphere.

We also suggest stopping for a drink at either Hotel de L’Europe and/or Le Moderne if visiting during the day. Both places have outdoor seating where you can relax and watch the world go by.
